About Dr. Tankersley
Dr. Stewart Hill Tankersley is a physician, veteran, and conservative leader committed to integrity, constitutional government, and a strong future for Alabama. A fourth generation physician serving the Montgomery community, Dr. Tankersley has spent his career caring for families while advocating for personal liberty, transparency in government, and traditional values.
After graduating from Auburn University with a degree in History, Dr. Tankersley enlisted in the United States Army before attending medical school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Following two years of OB GYN training, he and his wife spent a year training as Christian missionaries before returning to Montgomery, where he completed a residency in Family Medicine in 2002.
Dr. Tankersley has served the people of Alabama as both a physician and a soldier. During the War on Terror he completed three deployments with the United States Army Medical Corps and received awards for each deployment. He also served as a Colonel in the Alabama Army National Guard.
In addition to his medical and military service, Dr. Tankersley has been active in civic leadership. He served nine years on the board of the Montgomery County Medical Society and was elected President in 2010. In 2013 he was appointed by Governor Robert Bentley and confirmed by the Alabama Senate to serve on the Alabama Ethics Commission.
Throughout his career Dr. Tankersley has been a strong advocate for medical freedom, individual liberty, and accountable government. He believes Alabama’s future depends on protecting constitutional principles, supporting small businesses and rural communities, strengthening trust in public institutions, and defending family centered values.
Dr. Tankersley and his wife Rebekah live in Montgomery and are the proud parents of three children, Stewart Jr., Jon Paul, and Evelyn. When he is not practicing medicine or serving his community, he enjoys reading, spending time with his family, and staying involved in his church.
